Carney Wants Your Freedom!
The Canadian Constitution Foundation (CCF) warns that Bill C-2—a proposed “border security” measure—could strip millions of Canadians of basic privacy rights.
If passed, the sweeping federal law would grant police and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) troubling new powers, including the ability to seize data without a warrant, deploy secret surveillance software, ban cash purchases over $10,000, and open private mail without proper oversight.
Although the federal government says the bill targets crimes such as money laundering and fentanyl trafficking, critics argue its current wording could enable warrantless surveillance and violate Section 8 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
