Robert's book on Green Tourism is based on his travels around the world and his long experience with concern about the environment, which dates back as far as his childhood in the nineteen sixties.

He measures the environmental impact of different types of tourism, means of travel, accommodation and other tourist activities in terms of the quantity of energy required for their use. Instead of calculating this energy in joules or calories, which nobody can relate to, he expresses these quantities in terms we can all understand: gasoline of the kind we put into our gas tanks. In step with the use of energy comes the impact in the way of greenhouse gasses.

For each tourist activity that one can engage in, the author provides alternatives that are less environmentally damaging.
